How to keep fit and healthy
At Bennett's Well we are always trying to find ways to support our pupils in finding ways to be healthy. We were very proud to achieve Solihull Healthy school status in Summer 06. Well done to all those who supported the healthy tuck policy, which was part of this process.
As well as learning about diet and the importance of exercise in science and PSHE lessons we find other ways to help deliver this message.

Macaroni Cheese
Lots of fussy children only ever want to eat plain pasta with grated cheese. Maybe with a little gentle persuasion they could be enticed to try this tasty macaroni cheese. You can make this with or without the ham and tomato – it’s a really delicious cheese sauce. Pasta provides a good source of complex carbohydrate, so this macaroni will boost your child’s energy levels as well as providing a good source of protein and calcium.
Optional
4 medium tomatoes, skinned, seeded and chopped Preparation time less than 30 mins
Cooking time 10 to 30 mins
Method
Orange Frosty 1/2 cup frozen orange-juice concentrate 1 cup milk or plain yogurt 1 teaspoon sugar, optional 4 to 5 ice cubes Strawberry Delight Smoothie 1 cup milk Blend for one minute. Serves 1

250g/9oz macaroni
40g/1½oz butter
40g/1½ plain flour

2. Melt the butter over a medium heat in a saucepan slightly larger than that used for the macaroni. Add the flour and stir to form a roux, cooking for a few minutes.

Healthy Eating
We will be adding recipes to this section if youve any healthy recipes that are nice and simply as well as tasty please share them with us. We are particulary looking for recipes children can use.
We have also developed a policy that improves snack time at school, children must have fruit or a healthy snack from Monday to Thursday, on Friday chocolate is allowed as long as in small amount. Infants already have milk and fruit. All children have access to water.
In the future we would like to be able to offer workshops to parents who are interested to devlop ideas for healthy lunchboxes that children will actually eat and enjoy. Watch this space.
Exercise
As well as having a healthy diet exercise is also really important- theres lots on offer both at school and in the surrounding area. Why not take a look at the clubs section. If you know of a local club offering exercise for children why not let us have the details and we might be able to add it to our site.
